Wedding Bells 1951

Mitsumount Studios suspended Elva La Treque for one year for refusing to revive her role as Mary Magdalene in the sequel of “Jesus the Man, Jesus the Myth, Jesus the Musical” The film (working title “The Second Coming”) ended up never being made. We can assume La Treque wasn’t the only one who understood that a story yet to be written as a follow up to a film that bombed at the box office was not a good idea. The punishment, no matter how unfair, stuck and the year was tacked onto her seemingly endless contract with Mitsumount.
When she returned in 1951 she was in no position to turn down the roles they gave her which is the only possible explanation for her doing Wedding Belles. The story of Melody Parker who fills her idle days at the phone company listening in on others' conversations is trite and slow moving. Blanc La Rocque plays Senator Bob Turner whose voice becomes an obsession for Parker. Eventually she learns he is the one responsible for her father losing his job but she is already knee deep in dismantling a plot to assassinate him and she continues to cooperate with the police to save his life.
