Brass Ring 1942

A young girl on her way to the top as an equestrian suffers partial paralysis in a jumping accident but finds her true happiness once again riding the carousel and grabbing for the brass ring.

In Elva La Treque’s second film she plays Molly Anna a young woman who’s dreams of being a champion equestrian are shattered when she is thrown from her horse during competition. An avuncular doctor (played by John Maloney) helps young Molly Anna find her joy again by riding the merry-go -round. La Treque does an admirable job conveying the devastation of losing your dream; undoubtedly because she is still fresh on the path to attaining her own. The film starts in a nearly black and white muted palette and gradually swells to beautiful rich tones of the merry-go -round creating a visual key for Molly Anna's growing happiness.
